What to expect
At Locust Valley Dentists, our approach to root canals is simple. We’ll eliminate any decay or disease within the tooth, sterilize the area and protect it using a rubber dam, and then seal the tooth. Finally, we’ll prepare the tooth for a crown, take measurements, and then fit you with a temporary crown. We work with a skilled local dental lab that specializes in crafting durable and natural-looking restorations. When your finished crown is complete, you’ll return to our office for a final fitting and any needed adjustments.

Root Canal FAQs
Can a root canal infection spread?
Without treatment, a root canal infection can spread to other areas of the mouth and head. This makes it very dangerous to leave an oral infection untreated, so you should see your dentist right away if you notice symptoms.
Can a tooth have 2 root canals?
Yes. In fact, a second infection can make a secondary root canal very challenging, so its important to maintain good oral health after a root canal.
Can antibiotics heal an infected root canal?
Antibiotics alone are not effective in treating a root canal infection. A procedure is often needed to remove the infected tissue and prevent the spread.
Can I drive home after a root canal?
If youre sedated during a root canal, youll be unable to drive home and will need to arrange for help. Root canals can sometimes be performed with a local anesthetic, in which case you can drive yourself home.
Can you use a straw after a root canal?
You should avoid using a straw for 24-48 hours after your procedure.
